FYRE-TEC™ SUBFRAME MOUNTING SYSTEM

The subframe mounting system supplied with Fyre-Tec windows is shipped loose. The subframe kit is composed of six individual pieces,
cut to match the nominal opening size of the windows. The kit includes one head channel, four jamb angles, and one sill angle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Install head channel and exterior jamb angles (drip edge on the head channel to the exterior – rough opening leg of exterior jamb angle directed to the interior). Top, exterior leg of jamb angle should be trimmed to loosely abut the underside of the drip edge on the head channel. Components must be installed plumb and in a true plane. All trim is to be back-bedded with an approved caulking where in contact with the surrounding construction and must be affixed with approved fasteners.

All subframe components are to be fastened 3” from the individual component ends and 16” on center thereafter.

Run a small bead of caulking on the interior of the exterior jambs. Lift the window up and into the prepared opening. Shim the window sill and jambs, assuring it is square within the opening. The Fyre-Tec windows are generally provided as a nominal size which is equal to the specified rough opening size. The make, or tip to tip, size is 3/4” less, width and height, leaving a 3/8” gap around the entire window.

Note that there are weeps on the exterior of the sill that will not function properly if the window is allowed to rest directly on the construction sill. It is recommended that the window be shimmed approximately 1/4” above the construction sill to accommodate the weeps.

Install the interior jamb and sill trim angles. Attach interior subframe to the window with self tapping screws provided.

Caulk the total exterior perimeter of the subframe where it contacts the window and the prepared construction surface of the opening. Use caution not to block the sill moisture weep slots on the exterior of
the frame.
